LENS Neurofeedback CT

A Gentler Way To Reset Your Nervous System

LENS gives your brain gentle, direct feedback about what it’s doing so it has the opportunity to adjust. Use LENS on its own or alongside EMDR at our Norwich, CT office.

Let's give your brain the feedback report it needs.

Sometimes you know exactly how you want to live your life, but your brain didn’t get the memo. You know you’re safe, but you still feel on edge. You’re exhausted, but your brain won’t shut off. Or you understand the pattern you keep falling into, but understanding it doesn't keep you from falling into it again. Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS) gives your brain information about its own activity so it has an opportunity to adjust. There’s no staring at a screen, trying to make your brainwaves do the “right” thing, or even talking through what’s bothering you.

What is LENS Neurofeedback?

A gentle nervous system reset

LENS stands for Low Energy Neurofeedback System. It’s a form of neurofeedback that measures the brain’s electrical activity and provides an extremely low-energy feedback signal based on the activity it detects.

LENS is based on the idea that your brain can use that information to recognize its own patterns and autocorrect how it responds.

Think of it like holding a magic mirror up so your brain has to take a cold, hard look at how it acts.

The LENS feedback gives your brain information about its own activity, allowing it to notice patterns that may not be working as efficiently as they could and begin making adjustments on its own.

LENS neurofeedback can help people living with a wide range of conditions, although it's most known for its use to treat PTSD and ADHD.  It's safe for humans of all ages. In our office, we use it to help people with...

If the phrase “we’re going to put sensors on your head and look at your brainwaves” makes you immediately picture some questionable sci-fi situation, I promise the actual experience is much less dramatic.

When you come in for a LENS session, we’ll start by talking about why you’re interested in LENS, what you’ve been experiencing that goes against how you want to live your life, and what you’d like to notice changing.

Here's How LENS Neurofeedback Works

We'll send your brain Gentle Signals

I'll place small sensors on your head or body (typically the feet, arms, or shoulders) to read your brain’s electrical activity. The LENS system provides its feedback based on what it detects and it sends a very low-energy (non-painful) feedback signal based on what your brain is doing in that moment.

You don’t have to consciously do anything right to make the session work. You’re not staring at a screen, trying to concentrate harder, talking about what's bothering you, or working to produce the “right” brainwave. You just show up and let your brain do the work.

While you sit and relax, the LENS isn’t forcing your brain into a particular state or adding something your system doesn’t already have. It’s simply giving your brain information and letting your brain decide what to do with it.

Then you just sit and relax - That's it!

Hey, I'm Renee

Yes! LENS neurofeedback is a standalone service. You can come in whether you're in talk therapy, doing EMDR - or whether you want to skip all of that and just work on your nervous system now.

With EMDR, we’re working with experiences, memories, beliefs, triggers, and the ways your brain learned to respond to what happened to you. The goal is to help your brain process information that still feels emotionally charged or stuck.

With LENS, we’re approaching things from a different direction. You don’t need to focus on a memory or talk through an experience while your brain receives neurofeedback. We’re giving your nervous system information about its current activity and allowing it to respond.

Depending on what you need, I may recommend LENS alongside EMDR rather than asking one modality to do every job. But many people just come in for LENS and get the help the want.

Oh, and one more thing....Is it a stand-alone service?

Have Some Questions Before We Meet?

Is LENS Neurofeedback safe?

Yes, LENS is safe and non-invaseive. It uses an extremely low-energy feedback signal, and most people don’t even feel the signal itself.

Does LENS hurt?

No, it doesn't. The LENS feedback sends electromagnetic pulses that most people don't feel at all.

How is LENS different from traditional neurofeedback?

Traditional neurofeedback usually asks you to actively train your brain toward specific patterns using a screen, game, sound, or another form of feedback. While neurofeedback therapy can also be effective, it often takes people 20+ sessions to notice a difference.

LENS is much more passive. Instead of asking you to consciously create a certain brainwave pattern, it gives your brain information in real time about the activity that’s already happening. Meaning, it's less pressure on you. It's also more effective and affordable than traditional neurofeedback. Most people see a noticable improvement in the first few sessions. For more complex cases like PTSD, ADHD, or OCD people often notice a signifiant change within 10 sessions or less.

How long before I see results?

There isn’t one number that makes sense for everybody. How often we meet and how many sessions make sense will depend on why you’re coming in, your goals, and how you respond as we go.

I’d rather make recommendations based on what your brain is actually doing than sell you a magic number upfront. However, if you want to get a genralized range - most people see a noticable improvement in the first couple sessions. For more complex cases like PTSD, ADHD, or OCD people often notice a signifiant change within 10 sessions or less.

How much does LENS neurofeedback cost?

Your first LENS appointment includes the intake and assessment needed to get started. After that, you can purchase individual sessions or as a package.

Initial Session (30-45 minutes, includes first application): $250

Follow-up sessions (15-30):

  • 30 minutes
  • $150 per session

We offer discounts for military, first responders, veterans, and mental health professionals. Group rates are available for businesses and teams.

Can I do LENS without doing EMDR therapy?

Absolutely! LENS can be a standalone treatment option. You don't have to be in therapy or have ever done therapy to see benefits from it. But LENS is a great supplimentary therapy too. You can also use LENS and EMDR together or LENS with traditional talk therapy.

Can I combine EMDR and LENS?

Yes. I offer EMDR and LENS together when using it can be a benefitial supplimentary tool with the work we’re doing. EMDR and LENS serve different purposes, so we'll talk through whether it's right for you, and we never push it to simply add services for the sake of adding them.

Is LENS only for trauma treatment or mental health concerns?

No. You can receive benefits from LENS neurofeedback for lots of reasons, and you don’t need to come in with a trauma diagnosis. We’ll start with what you’re noticing and decide whether LENS is an appropriate treatment option for you from there.

LENS neurofeedback can help you move forward the way you want to.
