How is an EMDR Intensive different from weekly therapy?EMDR Intensives are the equivalent of multiple therapy sessions over one, two, or three days. Because you can work together for longer periods at a time, your we will be able to help you uncover the root causes of your trauma faster, allowing you to feel a more immediate transformation. In fact, research shows that it is as effective, or more so, then ongoing weekly EMDR treatment. EMDR weekly therapy happens in single sessions lasting 45-55 minutes at a time. Weekly therapy is meant to be an ongoing form of therapy and can be done online or in-person. Both have been found to be effective in treating trauma.
-
How do EMDR Intensives save time?Weekly sessions have a hard start and stop. That leaves you with a limited amount of time to work together as it may take you a few minutes to get acclimated to the session before you feel ready to talk about what’s bothering you. Time lImited sessions can also feel abrupt to clients who are on the verge of a breakthrough to hit pause and wait until their next session, hindering progress. With EMDR Intensives, there is no waiting. The longer session times allow us to cover more ground in one session. Clients often feel it opens the space for deeper discovery and faster healing.

What does an EMDR Intensive look like? Before your intensive: First, we'll meet for a 20-minute consultation to make sure EMDR Intensives are right for you. If you decide to move forward we'll meet again for a 90-minute history-taking and preparation session. You’ll also receive a customized workbook to help you prepare for the intensive. We do all this up-front so that on the day of your Intensive we can use our entire session to work on your goals. I currently offer a variety of ways to schedule your session: Half-Day Sessions: Each half-day intensive includes 3 hours of therapy (9 AM - 12 PM or 2-5 PM) Full-Day Intensive: Full-day Intensives last 5 hours, from 9 - 3:30 PM. We can book one, two, or three consecutive days of therapy for faster results. After your session: I never throw you back into real life alone. I’ll check in via email two and four weeks after your intensive to ensure you’re doing well and staying on track. If you think you'd benefit from more healing, massage therapy, or reiki, we can schedule that for you. Not sure how many days you’ll need? You don't have to decide now. Once I get to know you I’ll be able to recommend the optimal number of sessions. You can decide if you want consecutive sessions or to space them out into half-day sessions. If you're ready to book your initial consultation, you can do that here.

What if I already have a therapist? That is wonderful! Our work together doesn't discount any of the work you've been doing with your therapist. Many therapists trust their clients with me because they know the healing power of EMDR. Whether you're in general therapy or you're seeing an EMDR therapist, our EMDR Intensive works alongside your therapy to help you process blocks or traumatic memories faster. It's a way to feel rapid relief for those who are doing the work but still feel "stuck" or like something is holding you back. If you're comfortable with giving me permission to speak to your therapist ahead of your Intensive, I can! I'm a therapist too, and know how important it is for my clients to feel like they're on the right path towards healing. We'll get up-to-speed and ensure our work together is designed to compliment your current treatment plan.

Each package includes a comprehensive history session, a personalized workbook crafted specifically for you, and either a half day or whole-day sessions for one, two, three, and four days at a time. Once we determine the best treatment plan for you, I can give you a better idea of what the investment looks like. Here's a glimpse of what what the cost may look like: 90-Minute History & Planning Session: $500 This includes a detailed, customized workbook and any prep coordination needed with your care team. Half-Day Intensive (3 hours): $900 A great option for diving deep into your healing without committing to a full day. Can I use my insurance?EMDR Intensives are rarely covered by insurance. Most clients pay out of pocket. The benefit of EMDR Intensives is that you get more therapy for less than the price of ongoing sessions. We do not bill insurance for EMDR Intensive services but will gladly provide you with a superbill so you can discuss reimbursement options with your insurance provider.
-
How long does EMDR therapy take?EMDR Intensive sessions can range from 2-3 hours in an afternoon to 5 hours a day over the course of one, two, or three days. Sessions can be spread out over several weeks or conducted on consecutive days. For those coming to us for the first time, we strongly recommend doing consecutive days so you can get relief from your biggest struggle. The length of treatment varies based on the type of trauma you’re dealing with, your current symptoms, and tolerance for processing through difficult emotions. Treatment times can also be based on your availability. It’s normal to feel some immediate healing after the first session. While there is no way to know how fast or slow a client’s progress will be, we aim for you to feel relief after each session. We find clients who choose to do longer intensives over two to three days see the most improvement.
